Do you always wash your hands after visiting the toilet?
We posed 220 with this horrific question, and to our surprise they actually answered. Hopefully honestly. Needless to say, the results shocked us.
No to be fair – We could simply give away to options (“yes” | “no”), but where is the fun in that? We wanted to give our respondent a legitimate option to admit they don’t always wash. Did they bite the bate? Let’s see.
This was a really funny set to analyse. Although I wrote the options myself, I still find it strange that 6.7% of respondents would only wash their hand if “the situation requires”. What does that even mean? How far does things need to escalate for you 6.7% to wash your dirty hands, huh?
By the way, the unlabelled option in orange says “Not if I’m in a rush”. Some people are just to busy for personal hygiene.
The good news:
Almost 73% of people answering the survey wash their hands every time after visiting the toilet. That’s great to hear! Your mothers, teachers and doctors must all be super proud.
The bad news:
A bit over 27% of them don’t (always wash their hands after). And that’s really bad. At this point I’m not going to drill down to what exactly the excuses were – it’s bad enough as it is!
Now let’s drill down to it anyway 🙂
Big boys don’t wash
A lot was already written about how boys differ from girls when it comes to personal hygiene. Well, this one is a record. Male 36.54% likely to answer something other than yes to our hands washing question. Brrrrgh. That’s almost 3X higher than females (13.43%) so that 3 in 4 non-washer is not surprisingly a man.
Closing thoughts
Dudes and dudettes out there, please do wash your hands after you visit ye olde loo. If not for yourself then do it for the children. Will someone think of the children?
And please do share this piece for the world to see.
Interesting read! Hand washing is something I was taught when I was much younger, so it is not a hard task for me to perform anytime I visit the toilet.
